Action at the inaugural Melton SkiFly World Challenge was limited to just
the one round as the Australian weather was not kind to the first Ski Fly
event in the southern hemisphere.
Sponsored by the Melton township and put
on with the assistance of Correct Craft the AUS$35,000 event was decided in
the one and only round, held first thing on the Sunday morning before the
wind got up.
It was Canada's Jaret Llewellyn who took home the first prize
with a distance of 84.1 metres (276 feet) ahead of Americans Scott Ellis,
with 81.8 metres (268 feet), and Freddy Kruegger on 78.7 metres (258 feet).
British skier Jason Seels continued to develop his form off the longer ski
fly ramp finishing 4th by tying with Australian Bruce Neville on 76.1 metres
(250 feet).
The SkiFly World Challenge brought the season opening events in Australia to
a close before the start of the American Pro Tour in April and the World Cup
in July.
