28th January 2002 The Junior and Senior World Barefoot Championships.
There originally wasn't going to be any World Championship skiing on Sunday, but due to high winds the finals in the Trick event were postponed until Sunday morning.

Certainly the tension was very high because the Senior Men's Overall was so close as a computer was required to calculate who was in the lead between William Farrell and John Stekelenburg.

Going into this event there was less than one-tenth of a point difference between the 2 skiers with (by my calculations) "West Coast Willie" in the lead. With William Farrell posting the better score in the semi finals he was in the driver seat because John would have to ski first.

The skier who improved their score the most over the previous round would be the winner. However, between water conditions and "the pressure" John only came up with 5150 and William skied a 7730 to win his first Overall World Championship by 0.09 points. Congratulations to both men and all the winners, for a well fought battle. click here for event updates and here for barefoot news.

23rd January 2002 The Junior and Senior World Barefoot Championships is under way in Forest Lakes, Otaki, New Zealand with the first complete day skiing finished. At this point in time the event is definitely shaping up to a close battle between the Australians and the Americans with a battle between John Stekelenburg AUS and William Farrell USA. This will probably decide which Senior Team will take home the Gold Medal. But as you know this is a team event and all the members will have to contribute for Gold Medal winners.
